Le Bonheur Club is a non-profit organization supporting Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center through fundraising and volunteer service. Le Bonheur Club volunteers contribute more than 1,200 service hours each year at the hospital. Serving coffee and snacks to parents, delivering crayons and coloring books to patients and keeping the Bunny Room stocked are a few of the ways volunteers bring smiles to the faces of both the children and their parents. Donate to the Le Bonheur Club Child Life Endowment
This year Le Bonheur Club has pledged to raise $1 million to endow the Child Life Department at the hospital. The professional staff members of this department are developmental specialists trained in meeting the social and psychological needs of children undergoing medical treatment.
An Hour of Happiness
In 1923, nineteen ladies decided to help the children at Leath Orphanage by sewing clothing for them. They called their time together "Le Bonheur," from the French "hour of happiness."
In 1944, the club began efforts to establish a children's hospital. Over the next eight years, these ladies achieved thier goal of raising two million dollars to open the first and only children's hospital in Memphis, TN.
This 1952 photo shows the Le Bonheur Club President opening the hospital by tying the front door key to a balloon and letting it float away - symbolizing that Le Bonheur's doors will always be open to all children needing medical care.
